LATER MODIFICATIONS

The standard equipment supplied with Christal Pools incorporates the filter units in tubes beneath the steps as shown in the photo. After two seasons of removing the filters every three days, washing them, and recoating with earth, we decided to upgrade the whole filtration system with a standalone DE Filter.

Modification was pretty straightforward, simply removing the original filtration units from the tubes, but retaining the top plastic piece holding the baskets.

A new Hayward DE filter was fitted next to the pump unit. Now instead of cleaning filters every three days, we now just have a simple backwash every 4 or 5 weeks and a complete clean twice a season! The new unit is more economical on diatomacious earth also. The original units needed to be recoated with 400g every three days, the new unit needs 3kg every 4 or 5 weeks. All the filtration equipment, valve and additional pipework came to under £600 from Zyke piscines at Angouleme.
