THE FARMHOUSE - Bathroom

Not
the most enticing site for a bathroom. This area of the house had
never been used. Beyond the rear wall was a large empty area above
the kitchen bread oven, so no floor and no ceilings - you could
see straight up to the rafters.Additionally, the bathroom would
have to be built around the existing chimney which made design a
little complicated - however it does form a magnificent feature
and seperates the bathroom into distinct areas.

With
fhe wall removed, you can now see the outline of the chimney on
the left, which wound its way up the main central wall of the house.
The next stage was to repair and strengthen the exterior walls which
had never been touched. The joist running across the rear wall is
studded through the wall to provide additional strength. Because
the bread oven is underneath the bathroom area there is a 1 metre
gap under the floor - this enabled us to plan in a sunken bath -
luxury!

| Joists installed for the attic bedroom conversion and the floor laid in water resistant chipboard flooring. The other doorway now has a large window installed. In the corner the other old doorway has been blocked off, the walls remortared, and the preformed shower tray inserted into the floor. This is a fairly expensive item, but is preformed to enable it to be directly tiled and to take the wastepipe grill in the centre for the shower water. It was mounted so that the final floor tiling would be flush. Just walk straight under the shower and switch on. Around the chimney to the left and not visible here is the sunken bath. | |
